Some of you may have heard about the bomb that went off a few hours ago in Jerusalem. Both Mark and I are OK; we were indoors when it happened, although I’m fairly sure I heard the blast.
As I’m sure you can imagine, we’re both a bit shaken, given that we live and work in what’s pretty much the middle of downtown West Jerusalem, and right now there’s not a lot of information on what’s actually going on, whether this is an isolated incident or the start of something bigger. The situation has been feeling increasingly tense in the last few months, but I don’t think there’s any reason to panic until more facts are known.
I’m afraid I don’t really have the energy or interest to keep a running update on this blog; I hope everyone understands.
I understand – I’m glad you are OK, and I hope that everyone in Jerusalem is, too.
I remember how weirdly shaken I felt when a lunatic on a bulldozer used it to attack Israelis in Jerusalem the summer I was living there. It is a weird hell of a thing, to be sure, living in a place where those things happen. Glad you are both all right.
Yeah, I was here that summer, too–I’d been on that stretch of Yaffo the day before, and I was fairly shaken up, but this is different. Did you know that bombs sound nothing like firecrackers? Everyone who’s new in the country jumps at the sound of firecrackers because they’re afraid it’s a bomb, or a gun–I’ve seen so many students this year going through that adjustment. But there’s really no mistaking one for the other, once you’ve heard it. I think it’s going to be a very long time before I forget that sound.
Hi, was just starting reading your blog a week ago. Glad you’re ok. It must have been scary if you’re just near the location…
